1 Year Old Birthday Party

Over a week ago I attended my co worker's daughter's 1 year old party. It's a big celebration with family, friends, and co workers and other people the parents know. They wear the traditional clothing as you can see. The above pic is of my director (on the left), Lizzy and her baby, Kay (school manager) and me in the back with a bad need of a haircut! Ellie left before this party and the new teacher Billy arrived at our school the other day. We have a new term starting this week so it will be a busy week It's also starting to get hot and I think I might need to get an air conditioner to sleep well at night.

So here the baby has a choice of choosing some thread, some money, a pencil or a book and a grain of rice. And a new thing is also a mouse. (computer mouse) If the baby chooses some thread, they will live a long life. If the baby chooses some money, they will be rich. A pencil will mean they will be smart. A grain of rice means they will be healthy. A computer mouse will mean (guessing on this one) they will be the next Bill Gates? Anyways, it's a tradition to do this at the 1st year party and most Koreans celebrate 1st year parties instead of the very traditional 100 day parties.

At most celebrations and events like weddings and anniversaries and important birthday parties, there is usually a big buffet with tons of food. Of course I got there first before everyone else and saw there was no way I'd be able to try everything. They had everything like raw fish, noodles, steak and vegetable stews, you name it they had it. I'd have to say it was just as nice or even nicer than the food spread at the wedding I was at last month in Ulsan at the Lotte Hotel.
