Franz Beckenbaeur Interview!

Well last night there were 5 of us to watch some of the opening ceremonies and watch the first game of the WorldCup. It was a great opening goal and a good win for Germany. They didn't play a typical tactical game that they usually have in the past. It was a very open ended game, although Germany had the better chances and controlled most of the play, Costa Rica made it exciting. There was Paul, 2 guys he works with, Scott from Michigan and Dan from Texas, and a guy Mark from Manchester and myself.

During the last WorldCup in Germany 1974, usually people met and watched the games at each others houses. Now, people watch games in places that have big screens and High Definition TVs. Last night, we went to the Wa Bar in Seohyun Station in Samsung Plaza. They had 2 bigscreens, one right in front and one to the left.

This pic is of Franz Beckenbaeur on his recent WorldCup Trophy Tour to Seoul. He played in that 1974 WorldCup and I had the chance to ask him a few questions.

David: Franz, there is a lot of excitement about the opening match between Germany and Costa Rica. What's your prediction?

Franz: Well, I honestly think our team will come out and play strong and exciting football. We have learned a lot from our neighbors that "Total Football" is exciting for fans and the Dutch have proved that over and over. I predict we will win the opening match 4-2 meaning we won't be playing boring football.

David: Who do you think will be the superstar of this tournament Franz?

Franz: There are so many great young players in the game, Rooney, Messi, Podolski, and most of the Dutch team is possible as well. If Germany doesn't do as well as many predict, then I might have to step down as president of FIFA and stable the defense. I am 'Der Kaiser' you know!

David: Ok, that's great Franz. One more question. If you were stuck on a Desert Island, what are two things you would want to have with you?

Franz: That's easy. A helicopter and a pilot. That way I could still fly and see all the games of the WorldCup in Germany!
