As I sat in the chair at XEO hairshop in Samsung Plaza, there was a feeling of anxiety and discomfort. My usual hairdresser was absent on this day, the poor fella took his vacation this week while it is still in the midst of the Changma.
Instantly I felt the heat from the two layers of vinyl coverups. I started to sweat a little......
Did I say it correctly? Did this new person understand fully when I asked her to just clean it up a little around the back and sides? I said it before, pronouncing the words carefully and phonetically in Hangul. I thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and just relax to the friendly atmosphere and the sound of St.Germain over the soundsystem. I started to drift off a little, wondering what the surroundings of the pension in Gangneung will be like. They say it has the closest railroad to the sea in the world and that the first sunrise of the year can be seen here. When it is clear, it is picturesque.
Then I felt something around my ears and snapped back into reality. I could no longer feel the discomfort of hair around my earlobes. I looked up and realized that all that effort, all that strain, all the things I have worked for and fed for months, had vanished before me in the mirror.
My hair was mid length again so I had a decision to make.
