Gangneung

In Gangneung over the weekend there were a lot of people. Lots of really young people were flocking the beach all day and ALL night. I couldn't believe there were so many people, literally thousands! The pensions we stayed at was ok, it had an air conditioner that was maybe 10 years old but it worked well enough to keep us cool in there. We went to Hyundai Hotel after we met Han Jong. He's a director of a school in Gangneung. We went to the outdoor terrace behind the Hotel and he happened to be good friends with the chef! So we had some great barbequed chicken, pork and ribs. It was a great atmosphere! I would have to say that was the highlight of the weekend. It was funny because as I was leaving there, some younger girls were smoking just before they got on the bus and the bus driver was yelling at them for smoking outside in public. They looked quite young, maybe around 18 and the bus driver said to them that they're lucky he's not their father! He was quite pissed off at them and rightly so! In Korea you very rarely see a woman smoking outside in a public place, although there were many smoking on the beach, guys and girls. SO many people smoke here!

Anyways, the pictures here are of a sunrise taken around 5:30 am and the other of some traditional dancers just finishing a performance on the beach. I'll have some more pictures soon! I had a good time but it was nice to get back here yesterday and wash all the sand out of my clothes!
