Kicked the Habit

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of familar faces that I haven't seen since highschool on facebook. It's really great to see them and get back in touch. A lot of them still live in the same city though, something I cannot fathom. Living in Seoul, there's a certain buzz that's always in the air, making every new day better than yesterday. There's always something to see, on the bus, on the subway, on the street, or even where I live which seems to be like it's own city in a building. That is why, when someone asks me, 'What's your secret'?, after I tell him/her my age, I simply say, It's the korean lifestyle, the food, the excitement, the culture of a country that never seems to shut down. But, a few weeks ago, I decided to follow the growing trend of kicking the habit of smoking. It's been 12 days now. I don't think about it that much actually. I do feel much better and healthier although running 5 km feels the same as before. My friends are also around the same age, Paul and Billy, and it seems that they have a lot more energy than me, sometimes.

Well, it's May now and in Korea it means there are a lot of special days. It was Children's Day yesterday and on Tuesday it's Parent's Day and it's Teacher's Day next week and then on the 24th it's Buddha's Birthday. Anyone know how old Buddha is?
It works out great because the Champions League Final is on the 23rd and it will be on late. So I'll be able to watch it with Paul, Matt(from Manchester), Richie(Scouser), Wossen(from Ethiopia), Nick(Scouser), and Ahmed(from Kuwait). Hopefully the 'poker' won't be there. That guy was annoying and just kept on poking Paul for about an hour on Saturday night! It's becoming a regular thing to meet these guys at the Hollywood bar in Itaewon. We usually watch the Liverpool game and whoever else is playing. Last night it was the Manchester derby and unfortunately United won. So they'll probably win the league. They won't be going to the CHampions League Final though.

Could you please tell me more about Parents' Day? I'm homeschooling my 6 year old and we are starting to read some stories about Korea this week. Tomorrow (Tuesday), we get together with another family, and the kids all do a craft together. Since it is also Parents' Day in Korea, I thought it'd be fun to tie this in somehow. Is this holiday like the U.S.'s Mothers/Fathers day? Are any special foods served?

And, congrats on quitting smoking! Your blog is very interesting to this at-home mom; I hope to be able to take the kids to some of the places you've visited.

My email is fairlyoddmother @ inbox . com. If you can shed any light on this holiday, I would appreciate it very much.
