Peppero Day on 11.11 is a day that kids love here because of the sticks of chocolate so many people give to each other.
Even though it was Peppero Day here in Korea, it was really great to have a moment's silence for Remembrance Day before our game today. At first, it got quiet all of a sudden and I looked on to the field and saw everyone, just standing there actually looking uncomfortable; unusual but nice.
I really wanted to play in the game today but I just joined the substitutes on the sidelines and tried to add my advice while watching.
After the silence, one of our players(a korean guy) asked if somebody died. I said that a lot of people died a long time ago and explained the day in which we remember many people which have died in past wars.
I saw a movie tonight that reminded me that we can all forget about people that have been in those wars and how simple are lives can go on day after day while people are risking their lives to ensure our freedom. I overheard one girl say to her boyfriend, "That was boring wasn't it"?
I wonder how many people think like that? Do Koreans all think like that? Do they actually understand the situation their country is in? The answers, to us that live here are obvious, but unfortunately it's not a problem just in Korea. It's worldwide. People just do not understand what soldiers do for they country, where they came from, and why they fight for their country.
So I think it's really great to have days like this and that it's one of the most important days to celebrate however you like, but first and foremost, to remember what happened and the reasons why we are here today so we can appreciate the everyday luxuries and technologies.
By the way, the movie is called 'Lions for Lambs' and it reminds us of what the U.S is all about and why we should appreciate them more.
