Well, I got a call from my Dad on Sunday morning who told me that my grandmother (Beppe in Friesan) had just passed away. Everyone kinda expected it but it's still sad. My mom left on Thursday night to Holland because she was told that Beppe wasn't doing too well. I'm glad she got there on time. She was 92 years old when she passed away. My mom and Uncle Kees and Henk and Tante Annie in Holland were there when she passed on.
My mom said that it was a first experience for her to be there for someone's last breath. She was breathing, then it was longer in between breaths and then nothing. Mom wondered if Beppe knew who was around her but I think she knew everyone was there beside her when she went. Mom will arrange some flowers and stuff for the funeral.

She was always very kind to me whenever we went to visit her and my Pake (grandfather in Friesan). When I went to Holland by myself, we could communicate with each other using broken English and Friesan and a little Dutch too! She packed lunches for me when I went on some day trips to Groningen and Amsterdam. She went to visit us in Canada 3 times too. Here's the last picture I got of her and I together. It's really too bad I live so far away. My brother and Dad won't be able to go to the funeral either but my sister will say a few words for us there...

At least you are one of the lucky grandkids that got to know your grandmother and grandfather as you got older. Here is to your Grandma and all the good memories that you have to carry with you for the rest of your life.
May her soul carry on here on earth and may she rest in peace.
