Almost a year...

Well, it's been almost one year at my school, next Monday the 21st exactly. I will be going to immigration tomorrow to extend for a further 6 months. And I am fully sure that these next 6 months will be the last teaching in a private school atmosphere. Most of the time, I feel I am teaching what the school wants me to teach, depending more on accuracy and going against the spontaneous use of English as their second language. Trying to find the balance of these two have been the most difficult. So even though I've been teaching here for over 6 years, there is still a lot to learn about how to get the kids to improve without being stressed or 'unfossilized' from the mistakes they've made in the past.

In Korea today it was Liberation Day, the 61st year in which they have been independent from Japan. I asked one of the students the other day if she knew what it meant. She said, "Yes, but it's not for English people. Korea..... is X to the Japan." I asked her what she meant and she said, "Wait, I will show you in my 전자사전(electronic dictionary)."
I asked another student and he said "I don't know, but I know tomorrow we don't come to school!" Those are the kinds of things which make teaching these kids fun!

Well it feels like a Sunday night but it's only Tuesday so tomorrow will feel like Monday but it'll be Wednesday so Thursday will feel like a Tuesday and then Friday will feel like a Wednesday but it will actually be Friday! I like how that works!
