I know I just stated the obvious! Learning this language would be very difficult and could take your whole life to learn. I heard there are over 30000 characters to learn and to read the newspaper you need to be able to read at least 3000. I could not speak Chinese when I was in Taiwan...just tried to memorize some words when I was there. To be honest, sometimes it sounded like Korean so I tried some when i was there! Why not eh! A lot of people spoke English too but they were mostly the younger people. One thing I noticed too is that a lot of the older men had whiskers coming out of the moles in their faces. Kinda grossed me out a little. I guess the Korean men look quite clean cut compared to the Taiwanese. It's probably because of their 2 year stint they have to do in the army and get used to the short hair!

This is Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world. It also has the fastest elevator in the world at 1010 meters per second putting it in the Guiness Book of World Records. It was finished in 2004 and it cost about 60 billion Taiwan dollars to build! I think it's around 500 meters in height. The reason it's called Taipei 101 is because it has 101 office floors, the most in the world. This pic is from the side of the building. The metal structure is supposed to represent a button on traditional Chinese clothing. When Paul and I went up the tower, it was a little smoggy. It was hard to see some buildings in the distance.

I don't think I would ever live in a place like Taipei. It's a little too dirty in some places for me and the language is so hard. Saying that though, I think learning Chinese would be a great new challenge for me, after I can speak more fluently in Korean! Then maybe I can open a school like this one! I have such an open mind don't I???
