Not Really News...but Kinda

There's been a lot of broadcasting on the news and in the newspapers recently about the killing of the Pastor of a church in Bundang. Bundang is an area just south of Seoul. Most of the hostages are from the same church. In fact, if anyone has been to Samsung Plaza in the past, they might have been approached by one of the members of that church or even one of those hostages now.

Another was killed today apparently. I have asked some students about the hostages in Afghanistan and what their opinions were about the present situation. Some of them started talking about the hostages' religion and that they shouldn't be there in the first place. Ofcourse they feel bad about the killings but question why they went to a country that is so dangerous.

In some other news (a few days old actually), Korea won 3rd place in the Asian Cup. They didn't play very well in that game. They really had trouble scoring throughout the tounament and to be honest, the Korean peoples' expectations of the team are way too high. This is also some other Koreans opinions as well saying that they expect way too much after the glorious 2002 WorldCup. It's not as prestigious as the Worldcup either so it wasn't as popular for people to watch not to mention the other news regarding the hostages in the Middle East.

One of the funny things you will see in Korea is that so much of the advertising focuses on 'wellbeing' products. The latest is the new Hite 'S' beer (above) which contains fiber and is good for a woman's 'S' line.(body shape) It also contains less calories. So you can imagine that it can't compare to a 'real' beer but I have tried it, liked it and will buy some more!
